Analogue Systems modular Guitar Synth

30th November

Here is a really nice guitar synth setup using the Analogue Systems rs35 module along with 5 other A.S. modules. The rs35 module does a remarkable job of turning the guitar’s pitch into CV (control-voltage). There is no MIDI involved in this setup!

The rs35 module is a frequency (or pitch) to voltage converter. It can turn virtually any sound source into a one volt per octave voltage allowing you to control an analog synthesizer.

We are running a Strat into the Barber Electronics TonePress compressor pedal for added sustain. The guitar signal is then run into the low pass filter section of the A.S. rs110 Multimode filter to roll off some of the highs.

Now we run the audio into the rs35 ‘Frequency In’. The rs35’s voltage out goes to the rs95 voltage controlled oscillator. We’re using various modules to alter the oscillator sound including the rs100 Low Pass filter, the rs120 Comb Filter, and the rs290 voltage controlled digital delay/sampler.

Finally, a practical, easy way to play your analog synthesizer with a guitar. Rad.

This started out a guitar toy with built in echo, but I modified it into a functional (all be it noisy) guitar (or whatever) stomp box. It has a true bypass switch, input and output jack, bright blue bypass state indicating LED, and controls for gain, delay wetness, feedback with a switch that makes the feedback turn into white noise as it decays, and a knob and photocell to control the delay rate with selector switch.

Boss BE-5 Multiple effects pedal

2nd October

This pedal has been sold. It is a great multi effects unit from the early 90’s. Watch this video to hear it before you decide to bid on it or buy it now. In this video the pedal is played through a Laney gC50-a amp and the guitar is a custom wired Lotus strat copy. I am using the middle and bridge pickups the whole time. The adapter is included with this pedal. Our eBay user ID is also QbidMusicandMore. The link to the listing is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110191068529&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=001 You can copy and paste that into your browser to see the listing.

Mixing With The Pros Sample – Guitar Delay

20th August

Get it at http://musicbooksplus.com/mixing-with-pros-p-8117.html

You’ve purchased tutorial DVDs to learn how to use your music software. Now learn how to mix – right from the pros!

In this video, James Tuttle will show you how EQs, compressors, limiters, reverbs, delays, amp simulators, automation, and mastering plugins are all used to craft a mix that has clarity, depth, punch, pop, and sizzle.

You’ll get to see how and when each are introduced and how the entire mix is adjusted continuously as more and more elements are added.

You’ll begin to see how professional mixers “see” and “hear” a mix as a whole rather than as disparate techniques.

The techniques in this tutorial can be applied to any software or hardware-based effects units. You’ll be able to examine the final settings for each and every plugin in the mix and finally understand how those settings are attained. – Not as one-off uses of presets, but as continual adjustments to the various elements of the mix.

For once, users can truly see what happens behind the scenes of a mixing session in a professional recording studio.
