Review on Epiphone Dot
8th September 2008
Neat little guitar. A great poor-man’s alternative to the grand but obscenely overpriced Gibson ES-335. This guitar will Chuck-Bury most other semi-hollows in it’s price-range! Hahaha!

I also have an Epiphone Dot–and the same red. It was $315 American as a factory-second. These are very beautiful guitars and the looks are what attracted me to it.
Yes, these guitars CAN be used aside from jazz. Don’t forget that Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore used a Gibson ES-335 on most of “Deep Purple in Rock”, one of the hardest albums around.
Informative video! Nice guitar!

Overdrive is the type of gain you get from tubeamps when you really crank them and get those tubes pumping. Which is the best tone you can get.

That’s very …
That’s very subjective. I guess it depends on what kind of tone you’re after. This one would give a warmer, airier tone. The LP would have more attack and more sustain.

In a way yes. OD is more of a transparent layer over it to make it sound thicker. Distortion is “dirtier” in a way. so yeah, you’re right.

Hey! Well, …
Hey! Well, Epiphones these days are usually aimed at budget-minded players who desire Gibsons, not exactly beginners. But hey, there are many great musicians who play Epiphone, including Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, John Lee Hooker and Jorma Kaukonen from Starship! So yeah. Thanks anyways!
